PCA defeated VHS 6-4 on Tuesday
Porter’s Chapel Academy grabbed a 6-4 win over Vicksburg High on Tuesday.
“It was a really good game and we started off slow which forced the team to fight but we made some adjustments and were able to barrel up some balls at the end,” PCA head coach Paul Ashley said.
Tyler Carter singled to bring in the first two runs for VHS and Decedric Brown would bring in the final run to put the Gators up 3-0. Kealon Bass helped VHS go up 4-0 in the second from a single but PCA would respond with a RBI from Brayden King as they trailed 1-4.
Zach Ashley would heat the game up in the fourth as he brought in two runs from a single with the Gators still ahead 4-3.
A line drive in the fifth would by Gavin White would tie the game at four heading into the sixth inning.
Gage Palmer would continue to dominate on the mound by striking out batters left and right.
In the sixth, PCA would take the lead after a double from John Wyatt Massey and a single from Chase Hearn to go up 6-4.
“I’ve been struggling with hitting lately but hopefully this is a breakthrough but overall it was very nice,” Massey said.
The Gators couldn’t earn the runs they needed to tie or win the game as PCA took home the victory.
Palmer broke his own record by striking out 15 batters.
“I started off rough in the first couple of innings but my team pumped me up and that gave me a lot more energy,” Palmer said.
White had one hit and one RBI that quickly changed the momentum of the game.
“That feeling was great,” White said. I been in the cage all week but I’m starting to see the ball a little bit better.”
Ashley finished the night with two RBIs and Hearn had two hits.
Chris Green and Mincer Minor IV both had two hits for VHS while Carter led with two RBIs and one hit. Brown and Bass also each had a hit. Green also struck out four.
