Porter’s Chapel Academy blew out Kemper Academy 52-12 on Friday night in their season opener.

“Defensively we played great all game and we started slow on offense but they didn’t panic at halftime so we came out and finished the game strong,” PCA Head Coach Blake Purvis said.

The Eagles first got on the board from a nine yard touchdown run by Taylor Labarre in the first quarter followed by a four yard touchdown run by John Wyatt Massey in the second quarter.

PCA had a 14-6 lead  by halftime and would soon turn things up a notch in the third quarter.

The Eagles outscored KA 30-0 in the third quarter by pounding the football as Massey got a 32 yard touchdown run. Ty Mack also broke out for a 57 yard touchdown which was followed by a 77 yard punt return by Noah Porter. The final touchdown of the third quarter was scored by Jase Jung who ran from 18 yards out.

The offensive line was a crucial part of the Eagles’ success on Friday.

”The line played great and they did everything they needed to do,” Purvis said.

Hayden Beard would capture the final score on a 56 yard run as PCA handled business against Kemper.

Mack finished with five carries and 80 rushing yards while Jung ran the ball four times for 52 yards. Massey went 11/17 in passing for 139 yards. Jung caught four passes for 41 yards and Mack had 53 receiving yards on four catches.

Defensively, PCA controlled the game all night as Zach Ashley, Jacob Rutland, and Madelyn Whitehead all came up with a sack while Gavin Pugh grabbed an interception.

PCA will host Manchester on Friday.
