PCA opens up district play with a 40-38 win over Manchester

Porter’s Chapel Academy girl’s basketball team opened up district play with a 40-38 win over Manchester Academy.

The lady Eagles went up 12-8 in the first quarter with shots coming from Tiara Sims, Anjel Walton, and Sophie Masterson.By halftime, they were up 25-17 after Emily Muirhead got a quick layup just as time expired  in the second quarter.

PCA had a tough time shooting in the third quarter but was able to stay on top of things as they had a 35-30 lead while heading into the final quarter of play.

Hannah Henderson grabbed a big rebound  at the start of the fourth and took it up for a easy basket.

With 8.8 seconds left in the hectic game, the Lady Eagles found themselves with a 40-38 lead and Manchester was forced to foul. Sims didn’t knock down the free throw but time expired and PCA pulled off the win.

Sims led with 17 points followed by Walton who added 14 and five rebounds. Henderson grabbed nine rebounds and four points while Masterson pulled down six rebounds.

PCA will travel to Jefferson County on Saturday.
