Pelahatchie Police Department closed due to COVID-19

The Pelahatchie Police Department has shut down due to a case of COVID-19 among its officers.
Police Chief Joseph Daughtry made the announcement Friday night on social media.
“I would like to inform the citizens of Pelahatchie and surrounding areas that one of Pelahatchie Police Department Officers has tested positive for COVID 19,” the chief wrote. “Myself along with all my staff members that possibly came in contact with the officer is currently in the process of being tested. The Pelahatchie Police Department will be closed until all results are in and communicated accordingly.”
The Rankin County Sheriff’s Office and the Morton Police Department are covering the duties of the Pelahatchie force for the moment. The chief did not indicate how long he expects the department to be closed.
“Please keep us in your prayers as we continue to pray for you all!” Daughtry wrote.
