Phillip Carson receives prison sentence for drug conviction

Phillip James Carson, 34, of Vicksburg, was sentenced Thursday on his conviction of cocaine possession charges.
Carson was convicted on Wednesday, March 10, following a three-day jury trial. Today, Circuit Judge M. James Chaney sentenced Carson to 20 years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections with 10 to serve behind bars.
Assistant District Attorneys Brannan Southerland and Michael Warren prosecuted the case on behalf of the 9th Judicial District Attorneys Office. Carson was represented by Vicksburg Attorney Eugene Perrier.
Carson was arrested by members of the Vicksburg Police NET Team on January 3, 2020. Carson led officers on a brief pursuit before being taken into custody near F&G Beverages on Washington Street.
