Photojournalist Suzi Altman sets fundraiser to save Margaret’s Grocery

Photojournalist Suzi Altmanhas has started a campaign to raise money to save Margaret’s Grocery.
Altman announced on social media the Mississippi Folk Art Foundation has a contract to purchase the land. Altman has started a GoFundMe campaign to raise funds to help preserve the remaining artwork.
Recent severe weather has caused further damage to the site. Altman states on her campaign page, “The Mississippi Folk Art Foundation is dedicated to saving this outdoor art environment- But we need help. Part of the tower that Rev. Dennis built was destroyed by Hurricane Delta. We knew it was only a matter of time for this to happen but we are heartbroken. We have cleaned it up and are now trying to figure out how to shore up the remaining structure so it does not fall down and prevent further damage to this historic art environment. We will need to get a crew together to build a scaffolding system and brace the remaining structure while we work on plans to restore it to its former glory.” She further states the dire need for a new roof.
Altman states more information will be announced in the coming weeks, “It’s a BIG job, that We will accomplish together. I look forward to sharing more details in the next few weeks regarding our next steps. Thank you all for your continued support, encouragement and donations. All donations add up to make a BIG difference.”
