Pilot ‘Wait Anywhere’ online driver’s license appointment system launched in select Mississippi cities

With any luck, Mississippians waiting in long lines at the state’s driver’s license offices will soon be a thing of the past.
Drivers have been complaining for months about waiting hours to renew their driver’s licenses, with lines often snaking out the door in several offices. Now, Mississippi is testing a new program that will allow drivers to “Wait Anywhere.”
Wednesday, Sept. 11, the Mississippi Department of Public Safety’s Driver Service Bureau announced a pilot program where drivers can make an appointment online instead of just showing up, getting in line and waiting … and waiting.
The pilot was rolled out in five cities: Gautier, Hattiesburg, Jackson, Nesbit, Pearl and Tupelo.
“The ‘Wait Anywhere’ appointment system allows citizens to better plan their day and avoid waiting in lines,” DBS director Lt. Col. Ken Brown told WAPT. “We hope this new service will be utilized, and as a result, it will effectively help relieve these driver service offices of the long lines and improve the overall customer experience.”
No plans for a statewide rollout have been announced.
