Plane crashes in to Ocean Springs Middle School practice field

According to a report by WLOX, officials in Ocean Springs have confirmed a plane crash that occurred in the city on Friday morning. WLOX obtained information from intercepted radio traffic indicating the occurrence of a plane crash in the city.

Earl Etheridge, the Director of Jackson County EMA, verified that a small plane departed from Ocean Springs Airport with its destination set for Asheville, North Carolina. The crash took place less than a mile away from the airport.

The plane came to a stop on the practice field situated on the north side of Ocean Springs Middle School, resulting in damage to a section of the fence. The pilot reportedly escaped unhurt, although the aircraft is said to be leaking fuel.

Emergency responders from Ocean Springs Fire and Police departments, along with local Emergency Management, are currently present at the crash site. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) are on their way to investigate the incident. The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) has also been informed about the event.
