Police charge a man with aggravated assault in stabbing incident

Vicksburg Police officers arrested a man in a stabbing incident on Friday.

Leroy Newton, 68, of Vicksburg, allegedly stabbed a bystander in the right side during a domestic dispute, and police arrested Newton for aggravated assault.

The incident took place in the 1100 block of Harrison Street on March 13 around 7:19 p.m. The unnamed male victim was transported to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson for treatment. His condition is unknown.

Judge Angela Carpenter in Vicksburg Municipal Court set Newton’s bond at $50,000 on Monday, March 16, and he was bound over to the Warren County Grand Jury.
