A Michigan police K-9 is under investigation after reportedly stealing another officer’s lunch while the food was left unattended.

According to a post by the Wyandotte Police Department, the K-9, Officer Ice, failed to deliver on his oath to protect a person’s property.

“Stealing is not only a crime but it is morally wrong too. Some jobs, like that of being a police officer, require you to take an oath prior to starting. Within the officer’s sworn oath is the promise to protect person’s property,” stated the department.

Officer Ice is said to have waited until an opportunity presented itself in the break room before making his move.

“Ofc. Barwig was eating lunch in the breakroom when he was called to assist with a person in the WPD jail. He quickly jumped into service, leaving his half eaten lunch on the table,” stated the department. “A short while later Barwig and another officer returned to the breakroom only to find Ofc. Ice leisurely strolling out of the room licking his chops. Barwig’s entire lunch was gone….disappeared, vanished!”

The department also stated that Officer Ice is not cooperating with the investigation, having invoked his fifth amendment right to remain silent.

Officer Ice is reported to have a history of rummaging through trash cans and may be responsible for other missing food.

WPD states they will consider how to proceed with the investigation based on Facebook feedback.
