Police make quick work of alleged carjacking

A report of a carjacking reported on Monday morning may wind up being classified as a domestic dispute.

According to reports, a man and a woman were involved in an altercation inside a vehicle. The male is reported to have tried to bite and scratch the woman during the conflict. An eyewitness, who wished to remain anonymous, said they saw the altercation and heard the woman cry for help. He then observed the man take off with the vehicle.

The woman then contacted authorities to report a carjacking at 10:55 a.m. at the intersection of China and Cherry Streets. Numerous officers with the Vicksburg Police Department responded to the call and were able to recover the vehicle on James E. Stirgus, across the street from the mother of the male involved in the dispute.

The male suspect was known to the police and has since been taken into custody. Officers on the scene of the recovery indicated it may end up being classified as a domestic dispute based on the information they had at that time.

Police are still investigating the incident.
