Police respond in force to disturbance at Big Wheelie

Just before 9 p.m., a disturbance broke out in the parking lot of the Big Wheelie skating rink.

Numerous units with the VPD responded to the scene.

It is not known at this time what started the disturbance, but police radio traffic indicated one person was suspected of having a gun.

Several different groups were observed yelling and running around the parking lot as police arrived on the scene. The individual who was suspected of having a weapon reportedly ran into the woods behind the rink. About 20 minutes later, the individual suspected of having the weapon was in the parking lot speaking with law enforcement.

No gun was found and no arrests were made. Police left the scene by 9:30 p.m.
