Port Gibson boy’s basketball team won the district championship on Friday

Port Gibson High School boy’s basketball team won the district championship after defeating Hazlehurst 68-67.

Kam Brown and Jaylen Hill got the Blue Waves on the board early as they trailed 11-10 in the first quarter. PG took a 29-22 halftime lead after Brown, Hill and D’Andrew Reynolds all got on the board.

Late in the second half, Reynolds and Darrel Hedrick took over the game and helped the Blue Waves to the well-earned win.

Brown led with 21 points and five assists while Hedrick finished with 20 points and seven assists. Hill put up 14 points and Rakeem David added 13 on the board. Reynolds scored 11 points and Damion Miller added four points.

The Blue Waves are led by Head Coach Hulon Newsome and they will have a first round bye week.
