Port Gibson man in custody after allegedly shooting his brother in the head

Port Gibson Police Chief Russell Dorsey has reported a shooting early this morning.

At 4:21 a.m., a shooting occurred at 404 Walnut Street in Port Gibson.

Marc Hyder, 42, was involved in a disagreement with his brother, Harold Hyder, 44. At some point Marc Hyder produced a .380 handgun and shot Harold Hyder, striking him in the head.

Marc Hyder was taken into custody by Officer Michael Wells and Officer Adam Wells at the scene of the shooting. The handgun was also recovered at that time.

Harold Hyder was transported to UMMC in Jackson and is reported to be in stable condition according to Chief Dorsey.

Marc Hyder is currently in the custody of the Claiborne County Sheriff’s Department. He will be charged with aggravated assault and possession of a firearm by a felon.
