The Porter’s Chapel Academy girls basketball team shocked Greenville Christian School Friday night with a 72-65 overtime victory.

The Lady Eagles started the game off slow, and they found themselves trailing 20-9 at the end of the first quarter.

After a tough talk with head coach Casey Fisher, the girls got themselves together. They shared the ball and at the end of the half had taken a 26-24 lead. Olivia Masterson, Marley Bufkin, Tiara Sims and Zy Smith all hit big 3-pointers in the first half.

Yakia Burns led the team with 40 points on the night. Greenville Christian failed to contain the great player.

The game stayed close after the first quarter and Porter’s Chapel and Greenville swapped leads several times, especially in the fourth quarter when Burns was fouled and scored, sending the game into overtime.

Burns, Sims and Smith took over the game in overtime. They all scored layups and Sims and Burns were sent to the free throw line. In the end, the Eagles walked away with a win. The final score being Porter’s Chapel with 72 and Greenville Christian with 65.

Smith and Sims finished with 13 points each while teammate Bailey Andrews put up 2 points and Masterson and Bufkin finished with 3 points each.

The Lady Eagles are now 17-5. With this game, they finally got their revenge on Greenville after losing to them by 21 points early in the season.

Porter’s Chapel plays Manchester Tuesday, Jan. 26, at home.
