The 2022 Mississippi District 2 primary election has concluded with Bennie Thompson slated to face the Republican candidate in the Nov. 8 election. The Republican candidates, Ronald Eller and Brian Flowers, will have a runoff to determine who will represent the Republican Party.

Bennie Thompson took an early lead as the results began to be tallied. That lead was kept across all counties within the district with Thompson securing 96.2% of the votes across District 2.  Unofficial tallies place Thompson with 48,111 votes and Jerry Kerner receiving 1,887.

On the Republican ticket, the race remained neck and neck throughout most of the night between candidates Ronald Eller and Brian Flowers. Eller received 4,510 votes, 32.6%, and Flowers managed 5,954 votes, 43.1%.

Flowers and Eller will have a runoff on June 28 to determine which will face Thompson in the General Election.
