A young man’s quick thinking may have saved the life of another man involved in an accident earlier today in Vicksburg.

Ashton Greene, of Vicksburg, witnessed a vehicle cross the median on Highway 61 North, cross the lanes on the other side of the road and continue into a field at the side of the road.

“I saw him leave the road, go up the hill and knew that he must have some type of medical emergency,” Greene said.

When he reached the vehicle, he said it was obvious the driver was in distress.

Greene said that he “saw he wasn’t breathing and started CPR” after pulling him from the vehicle.

On the scene, County Fire Coordinator Jerry Briggs said the man was breathing and had a pulse. He was transported to Merit Health River Region, which is in the immediate area of the accident. The man’s name is being withheld pending next-of-kin notification.

Greene is a project manager with CCM Commercial Construction & Maintenance, according to his Facebook profile, and is married to Misty Austin Greene of Austin Family Dentistry in Vicksburg.
