Ray E. Cato, passed away on September 22, 2023, in Jackson, MS. He was 79 years of age.

Ray was born on February 20, 1944, in Vicksburg, MS to Henry and O’ D Cato. He was a lifelong resident of Vicksburg. He was retired from Grand Gulf Nuclear Power Plant.

A stocker racer on the circuit during the 1950’s through the 1980’s. Racing was something he enjoyed with a passion. He held the first NASCAR license in Mississippi in 1967. He received two Keys to the City of Vicksburg.

Ray Was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years Eileen Cato. He is survived by his daughter Karla Alford, son-in-law Danny Alford and a grandson Cameron Sherman.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 26, 2023, at Glenwood Funeral Home at 1:00 P.M. with Visitation beginning at 11:00 A.M. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Vicksburg, MS.

Pallbearers will be Scott Barlow, Herman Smith, Danny Alford, Phil Cameron, Perry Brogdon, and Willis Finch. Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Utz, Travis Vance, Ira Whitaker, and Early Otts.
