Raymond High School football team pulled off a close 35-28 win against South Pike on Friday to advance their record to 7-1 for the year.

SPHS got on the board first by getting a 65 yard touchdown run in the first quarter to take an 8-0 lead.

The Rangers quickly stepped up in the second half with Dontavious Mack catching a eight yard touchdown from Trent Singleton and K’Swaya Moffett, Jr. taking in another one yard score to give Raymond a 15-14 halftime lead.

Coming out of halftime, SP broke out on a 27 yard touchdown but Singleton responded for Raymond on a five yard score.

Both team’s fourth quarter performance determined the final victor. Singleton and Moffett both scored off five yard runs in fourth, along with Moffett’s two point conversion that gave Raymond a 35-28 lead with little time left on the clock.

With South Pike in possession of the ball late in the game, they decided to throw a pass which was intercepted by Anthony Shirley to end the game.
