Redwood Road will be opened to light traffic next week, according to Warren County District 1 Supervisor Edward Herring.

Delays in beginning repairs have prompted the move. About a half mile of the road is covered with slag to allow light traffic and school buses to use it.

The county is working through all the processes that are required by the Federal Highway Administration and the Mississippi Department of Transportation, as federal dollars will fund the roadway repairs.

County Enforcement Officer Edmond Gibbs will be patrolling the road to ensure that big trucks are not using it.

A section of Redwood Road was closed in February because of damage caused by heavy rains and flooding.

Meanwhile, the Freetown Road bridge project is nearing completion, according to Herring. Some utility lines are being relocated so that drainage around the bridge can be completed. These tasks should be finished shortly.
