The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Vicksburg District is opening registration for its annual archery hunt at Grenada Lake for the 2020-2021 deer hunting season.

Registration opens Tuesday, Sept. 8, and hunters must call the Grenada Lake Visitor Center at 662-226-5911 to obtain a permit. Hunters will have the option to use crossbows, compound bows or traditional archery equipment. There will be two designated archery areas for hunters to choose from, including:

Area 1: The Quail Management Area located at the north end of the Grenada Dam. This area will be open for archery-only hunting from Jan. 4 to Jan. 31, 2021.

Area 2: The USACE property located on the south side of Old Highway 8 between 333 Restaurant and Wolf Creek Hollow. This area will be open from Oct. 1 to Jan. 31, 2021.

Hunters will receive a packet of all rules and regulations, as well as detailed maps of each designated area.

The goal of the hunt is to reduce the doe population to minimize habitat degradation and gather data pertaining to the deer herd.

For questions about the event, contact the Grenada Lake Visitor Center.
