I went to McAlister’s this week with my son, without an extra set of hands. If any of you have young babies, you understand how challenging this can be. I was preparing myself for the worst. I was right to do so. As I was ordering my food my son, Jasper, tried to climb onto the counter and eat the desserts they have on display. The cashier, Destinee, was wonderful with him. She was patient. She gave us suggestions for the meal. I was so grateful for that moment of grace, because if you’re constantly juggling a child on your own you understand how overwhelming it can be.

I ordered the spicy southwest chicken sandwich and a chipotle chicken and bacon spud. I ordered a ham toasty for my son, Jasper. I had to put Jasper in a high chair before I could carry our drinks to the table, and I was holding up the line. I felt so bad, but Destinee really went above and beyond so that I wouldn’t feel like a nuisance. She brought my drinks for me, helped me get Jasper in the high chair, and then brought straws for me. McAlister’s is a mostly self-serve deli. She didn’t have to do what she did, and I’m so grateful for her.

We weren’t even settled into our seats before the food came out. My spud was steaming hot with perfectly melted cheese, and so much bacon I could’ve fed an army. My sandwich was also fresh and hot, and they didn’t skimp on the chipotle ranch. I actually had some of Joseph Stubb’s cannonball sauce on me, and let me tell you, it was the perfect pair for this sandwich. I could’ve swallowed that thing whole. My sandwich had such a bold flavor, and I LOVED the roasted corn. It’s the most beautiful thing. I could tell you all about it. No, seriously. This sandwich was delicious. My spud was top tier too. The cheese was so melty. I probably put 2 pounds of butter on it. If that potato gave me a heart attack, then I know I died a happy death.

Jasper liked his ham and cheese toasty too. He dissected it mostly, but he was having the time of his life doing so. He tore up the apple sauce. I didn’t know, but the kids meals come with a little cookie. McAlister’s cookies are superior to other cookies. I don’t make the rules. I’m just glad I got to witness Jasper’s first taste of them.

McAlister’s was a wonderful treat, and the staff was remarkable with my baby. That’s how you get customers to return!! Keep it up, McAlister’s! We’ll see you soon!
