Riverwalk Casino donates $5,000 to the American Cancer Society

Riverwalk Casino Hotel donated $5,000 to the American Cancer Society Thursday morning, part of the organization’s ongoing commitment to supporting breast cancer research.

“The fight against breast cancer has always been very important to us at Riverwalk,” said Ginny Tzotzolas, Riverwalk Casino general manager.

The donation was made in lieu of Riverwalk’s annual Bras Along the Bridge campaign, which was not held this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“It totally changed what we normally do,” Tzotzolas said. For Bras Along the Bridge, Riverwalk asks women to donate bras and Riverwalk donates $1 to the American Cancer Society for each one collected. The bras are then used to decorate the old Mississippi River bridge with a big event at the end of the campaign.

Instead, Riverwalk decided to simply make a donation this year. The casino is also asking customers to donate in exchange for free play, Tzotzolas said.

“We’re thrilled to receive this generous donation from Riverwalk,” said Megan McBeth, American Cancer Society representative. “We’ve enjoyed a special relationship with the people at Riverwalk for several years. We truly appreciate their generosity and support, and we look forward to that continuing in the future.”

“We definitely plan on being back next year,” Tzotzolas said, “so, make sure everyone is saving their bras. That way we can have plenty of money to donate next year.”
