Estimated reading time: 3 minutes
Linda E. Hicks dedicated her life to the Lord, her family and education. Her passion for knowledge and lifting up those around her was evidenced by a 32-year career as an educator in Mississippi public schools. Although Linda was called home in 2013, her legacy lives on and she continues to make a difference in the lives of Mississippi students to this day through the scholarship fund created in her memory.
The Linda E. Hicks Scholarship Award Program was originally established in 2014 to provide educational opportunities to participants in the 2014 Apple of My Eye Girls Conference, for their academic achievements. The Scholarship provided a one-time award of $500 payable to the recipient to assist with their tuition, registration or other fees, books, or items necessary for school room and board.
This year, three candidates will be selected to receive $1,000 each. These awards will continue to fulfill Linda’s dream of furthering the education and training of young men and women upon graduating from high school.
Who is eligible?
High school seniors able to verify enrollment to an accredited post-secondary institution or trade school and “believe in their heart and confess through their mouth that Jesus Christ is their Lord and personal Savior and believe they’ve had a personal encounter with God.” Candidates must also model positive change through volunteerism, community service, and extra-curricular activities.
Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 2.5 and supply two written recommendations from personal references.
The application process includes a 500-word essay on how the funds could assist in achieving your goals for the academic school year.
When will the awards be presented?
The three selected recipients will receive their award on Aug. 7, 2022. The scholarship committee will send a letter of notification by email and US mail.
