Russell Dorsey was sworn in as the police chief of Port Gibson Wednesday in a ceremony that was streamed live on the City of Port Gibson’s Facebook page.

Many citizens tuned in to watch the ceremony and send their congratulations.  “He’s a humble young man who I believe is going to do amazing things for the City of Port Gibson,” commented Hazel Yarbrough.

Dorsey is a decorated 12-year veteran of the Vicksburg Police Department. In October, Dorsey was bestowed the department’s top honor, the medal of valor, for the heroic rescue of an elderly man from his burning home.

Dorsey has also served as an investigator for the Port Gibson Police Department previously.
