Salvation Army Vicksburg

The Salvation Army of Vicksburg is under new leadership. Major Janna Torgerson, former Associate Corps Officer of Baton Rouge, arrived in Vicksburg in early June. Major Torgerson’s arrival as the new corps officer is part of routine appointment changes made throughout the army every few years. Former Vicksburg Corps Officers, Majors Steve and Mary Welch have entered retirement.

Major Torgerson has served as a Salvation Army officer for 17 years. She was born in Thailand to missionary parents and grew up in Snohomish, Washington. She joined The Salvation Army while in school at Concordia College. Torgerson has served in Georgia, Texas, West Virginia, Washington and Louisiana. She has also served during multiple disaster relief efforts, including Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Rita.

“Vicksburg is a beautiful city. The people I have met so far are friendly, caring, and committed to helping their community. I am looking forward to being a part of this caring community,” Torgerson said in a statement.

Major Torgerson is passionate about community youth and strives to show Christ’s love and compassion to kids of all ages.
