A Warren County man is behind bars after allegedly setting a woman on fire Saturday, according to Sheriff Martin Pace.

Just before 10:30 a.m. Saturday, the Sheriff’s Office was notified by Merit Health River Region hospital that a female patient had arrived at the emergency room suffering from burns reportedly sustained in a domestic assault.

“It appears that he poured rubbing alcohol on her and set it on fire,” Sheriff Pace said. “She suffered burns on her shoulder, upper body and legs and was treated by the emergency department for most of the day. She was just released this afternoon.”

At 2:15 p.m., Sheriff Pace, Sgt. Ray Thompson, Lt. Stacy Rollison and Deputy Dusty Keyes arrested Samuel Purvis Coley, III, 30, at his home in Redwood and charged him with aggravated assault domestic violence.

Coley will remain in custody at the Warren County jail until his initial appearance in court on Monday.
