Sandbags being offered to help residents prepare for Pearl River Flood

Sandbags are being made available throughout the metro area to help residents prepare for the Pearl River to flood. The Pearl River is expected to crest on Tuesday at 36 feet, more than 8 feet above the flood stage.

Sandbags will be available starting at 3:30 p.m. at McLeod Elementary school. Those wishing to load up must bring their own shovel. Sand will be given on a first-come-first-serve basis.

According to WLBT, other locations to secure supplies are:

  • 4225 Michael Avalon St., Jackson – 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Residents are asked to call 311 if they are unable to make it to the sandbag distribution site
  • Liberty Park ballfields, Liberty Road, Flowood – sand and sandbags will be available
  • Davis Road Park, Byram – no times listed; citizens are welcome to bring shovels and collect what they need.
