Sanders announces his JSU Tigers staff
Jackson State University head football coach Deion Sanders has announced his new coaching staff which includes plenty of former NFL players.
“We have a great group of coaches, and I’m thrilled they’ve decided to join me on this journey at Thee I Love Jackson State University,” Sanders said in a statement. “We have a group of men that will serve as mentors in the field of competition and in the classroom. This staff knows how to win and win at a consistent level.”
Michael Pollock will be the Tigers new offensive coordinator. He has been coaching on the high school level for many years and was recently the head coach of Lincoln County High School in Georgia.
Dennis Thurman will come in as JSU’s next defensive coordinator. He is a former NFL defensive coordinator for the Buffalo Bills and the New York Jets and has helped develop many pro athletes.
Former NFL player Alan Richard will be the special teams coach for the Tigers. He coached at the University of Louisiana Monroe in 2019 and he also played in the NFL for eight years.
Since being named head coach of the Tigers, Sanders has been bringing in major recruits for the university and he has packed his staff with individuals who are more than familiar with the game of football.
Remaining incoming staff:
- Mike Markuson: Offensive lineman coach. He has been coaching on the collegiate level for over 30 years including schools such as Murray State University in Kentucky and the University of Arkansas.
- Gary Harrell: Running backs coach. He has coached at Florida Atlantic, Howard University and Alabama State University. He also played for the New York Giants.
- Kevin Mathis: Defensive backs coach. He coached with Sanders at Trinity Christian. He also played in the NFL for the Dallas Cowboys and the New Orleans Saints.
- Andre Hart: Linebackers coach. He was previously the head coach of Trinity Christian where Sanders was the offensive coordinator.
- Jeff Weeks: Defensive lineman coach. He coached for the Buffalo Bills and many teams on the collegiate level including Texas A&M.
- T. C Taylor: Tight Ends coach. He was a star football player at JSU and went on to sign with the New England Patriots.
- Ottis Riddley: Recruiting coordinator. He was a former standout player at Mississippi State University. He recently coached at Copiah-Lincoln Community College.
