After being named the new Jackson State University head football coach yesterday, Deion Sanders has already offered a football scholarship to a five-star recruit.

According to 247sports, Smith made an offer to 316-pound defensive tackle Maason Smith out of Houma, Louisiana.

“Just talking to me about changing the culture,” Smith said to 247sports about his conversation with Sanders.

“He was saying how they wanted things to change. So to do that they had to take hard hits and try and start getting quality four- and five-star dudes.”

Sanders will be in charge of turning around the program that has struggled over the recent years and has also offered other top prospects a chance to play for the Tigers.

By offering Smith a scholarship, Sanders is already showing that he is ready to bring in some big players for the Tigers to get them back on track.
