Blue Duck scooters will launch in Vicksburg Thursday, Sept. 17, making the city the first in the state to provide rental scooters to its residents and visitors.

“We won’t brag first because we don’t know how it’s going to work out,” said Mayor George Flaggs Jr. jokingly in Thursday’s meeting of the Board of Mayor and Aldermen. The city has been working with Blue Duck for nearly a year, going so far as to get legislation passed to allow scooters on the streets.

Blue Duck is assuming all liability for the scooters, said City Attorney Nancy Thomas, and the city is not spending any money to bring the scooters to Vicksburg. The board approved the contract with Blue Duck at the meeting.

A ribbon-cutting and launch event for the new service is scheduled for Sept. 17 at 9 a.m. at the Vicksburg Convention Center, 1600 Briggs Hopson Boulevard in Vicksburg.
