Flood 2011
Service Interruption Possible for Yazoo Valley Customers in Redwood
]]>
The Yazoo Valley Redwood substation in N Warren County will experience a service interruption. Water has reached a critical level along Entergy’s high voltage transmission line feeding the substation. Entergy must de-energize it. We’re constructing a temp substation to maintain power in Redwood. We hope to have work complete before the outage occurs. This will happen within 48 hours. The following information was copied from the Yazoo Valley Electric Power Association’s website (www.YazooValley.com) Yazoo Valley Electric Power Association is closely monitoring the flooding along the Mississippi and Yazoo Rivers. Many hundreds of our members, including many Yazoo Valley employees, will be affected by the rising water and must secure their homes and businesses until the waters recede. Yazoo Valley’s first duty is to maintain public safety. Therefore, electric service will be disconnected to dwellings, and other buildings and services that cannot be safely served. If water can reach any part of the electrical service—wiring, breaker panels or electric meter—an electrical hazard exists and service will be discontinued. If your meter needs to be disconnected, do not attempt to do this yourself. Call Yazoo Valley immediately. We will send personnel to properly and safely disconnect your electrical service. It is possible that some entire lines will need to be de-energized until the flooding ends. We are taking extraordinary measures to secure lines and equipment to maintain service in the affected areas, and Yazoo Valley will seek to maintain electric service wherever possible. However, public safety will ultimately determine whether a line remains in service. If your residence or property is flooded it will be necessary to have a qualified electrician inspect and approve the electrical equipment and wiring at your location before we can reconnect your service. During this time of emergency Yazoo Valley will not charge to disconnect or reconnect your electric meter. As the water rises in the flood plain, transportation, in most cases, will be limited to boats. Boaters should take extra precaution to watch for power lines. In some low-lying areas, water levels may reach high-voltage power lines. Use extreme caution and do not go near a power line in a boat or other vehicle. This will be one of the largest natural disasters to hit our area in many years. The loss of property and commerce will be immense. We pledge to work with our community and our members to ease the burdens created by this disaster. Please be sure to look for updated information on our website at www.yazoovalley.com.]]]]> ]]>
