On Wednesday, the Board of Mayor and Aldermen approved an emergency declaration concerning the sewer lift station on Paxton Road.

The board voted to approve the declaration in order to repair the pump at the station. The city will be able to hire a contractor without going through the normal bidding process.

The sewer lift station helps to move the city’s sewage to a treatment plant on Rifle Range Road. Public Works Director Garnet Van Norman stated the machinery was “worn out”.

Van Norman also stated the city does not have the ability to repair the area around the pump, despite having the parts available.

Currently, the station is being bypassed.
