Vicksburg native Shardez Taylor is now playing football at the University of Southern Mississippi.

Taylor confirmed to the Vicksburg Daily News over the weekend that he was now at USM.

“USM showed the most interest and the players all seemed to be like brothers so I want to be around that king of environment,” Taylor said.

Taylor spent last season playing at East Mississippi Community College before suffering a knee injury. He spent the last several months rehabbing his knee and is now back in action.

Taylor chose USM over the University of Colorado and will now be competing for a starting spot with the Golden Eagles, who finished with a 7-6 record last year, along with a LendingTree Bowl victory.

“I was still working out every day and I never sat down even on the day of surgery I never stopped walking,” Taylor added.

Taylor once starred at both Vicksburg High School and Trinity Christian, where he helped his team win the Texas Christian Athletic League Championship as a senior. He has now found a new home with USM, where he has four full years of eligibility.
