Sharkey County reminds homeowners, contractors to call 811 before digging

Sharkey County Emergency Management and the Mississippi State Board of Contractors want to remind all contractors and homeowners to call 811 before they dig. Mississippi 811 offers utility line location services to contractors, builders, and private citizens. Before beginning any work that requires digging, you must contact 811 to ensure the safety of your project. This service is free and required by law.

“Due to the recent tornadoes, the underground utilities in Sharkey County are very delicate. Taking the time to verify the location of utilities before you dig ensures the stability of our water, power, and gas systems as we work to rebuild our community,” says Natalie Perkins, Sharkey County Emergency Management Deputy Director.
