Shawn Jackson gets endorsement from Jim Stirgus, Jr.

Former supervisor candidate and current Vicksburg-Warren County School Board Member Jim Stirgus Jr. has endorsed Shawn Jackson for District 3 Warren County Supervisor. The endorsement took place at 2:30 p.m., today, August 13, 2019, at the Mississippi Welcome Center and was initially reported live by the Vicksburg Daily News.

“I am proud and honored to support Shawn Jackson for District 3 Supervisor. Like myself, she has the desire to see our District progress, and she has the experience and energy to bring about much-needed change,” Stirgus said.

In a statement, Stirgus went on to say: “August 27th we have a choice:  we can stay stagnant, or we can work together to move forward.  I choose to work together and support Shawn Jackson. It is time for a change. With solid representation on the Board of Supervisors, along with the work we are doing on the School Board, I feel we are positioned for progress.”

Shawn Jackson will face 23-year incumbent Charles Selmon in a runoff election August 27. Jackson won the Democratic Party primary election by three votes over Selmon, but did not reach the 50-percent-plus-one threshold to avoid a runoff. The three-person race August 6 included Stirgus, who did not qualify for the runoff.

Selmon had not returned a call for his comment by the time this story was published.
