Sheriff Martin Pace addressed the community on Friday and provided an update on Friday’s missing child case.

According to Pace, at around 9:30 a.m., 911 received a call from a county resident of a 5-year-old child at her home on Old Highway 27. Pace stated that when units arrived on the scene, they found the child to be a special needs child that was not able to communicate.

About an hour later, authorities were able to locate the mother who Pace says was not aware the child was missing.

Authorities discovered at that time that another child, a three-year-old was also missing from the same home.

Pace stated that every available deputy was called in, along with drone assistance from the Vicksburg Police Department.

The child was found shortly after in a pond nearby.

CPR was performed until paramedics arrived. The Child pronounced dead by Coroner Doug Huskey.

The mother of the child and her acquaintance is being interviewed. The surviving child is currently in the custody of child protection services.
