Sheriff Pace provides update on Friday’s pursuit

A reckless driver is facing felony charges after attempting to elude police.

Terry Porter of Yazoo County was arrested Friday after failing to yield to a traffic stop and instead fleeing from officers at a high rate of speed with a toddler in the vehicle.

“We did not know when we initially tried to stop him that he had a child in the car. He had a child, a small child, a toddler in the back seat,” said Sheriff Pace.

Porter faced Judge James Jefferson in Warren County Justice Court on Friday afternoon, where his bond was set at $10,000 for charges of felony eluding and child endangerment.

“We have very clear pursuit policies in place,” Sheriff Pace said. “We don’t ever want to create more of a hazard than the violator is creating.”

Rather that pursuing the vehicle at high-speeds, Sheriff Pace worked with officers and deputies along the suspect’s route to maintain tracking of his location and ultimately bring him to justice.
