Shirley Deason Cook, 1936 – 2022

Shirley Deason Cook passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 12. She was 85 years old.

Shirley was a lifelong resident of Vicksburg and graduated with her Nursing degree from Mercy Hospital. Shirley spent most of her career as the staff nurse at Cooper Lighting and International Paper. Shirley was a member of Northside Baptist Church and a devoted Christian.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, James Carlton Deason and Edna Deason Standard; husband, Richard Fay Cook; daughter, Shirley Faye Cook Baylot; sisters, Alenda Baylot, Sara James, Flora Jones and Betty Vinson.

Survivors include her sons, Jerry Wayne Cook (Wanda), Richard Gee Cook (Jill) and Joseph Dean Cook (Laura); daughter, Penny Dianne Frith (Gene); sister, Carolyn Smith; brother, Peter Deason; 11 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 17, at Glenwood Funeral Home. Rev. Tony Honk will officiate the service. Visitation will be from noon Monday until the hour of the service. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Gardens Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Corey Adcock, Joshua Cook, Jeremy Cook, Adam Harvey and Jemar Nonely.
