An altercation at the basketball court adjacent to the Animal Shelter in the Kings community resulted in the death of a 21-year-old man Monday afternoon, Police Chief Milton Moore says.

Just after 2:30 p.m., Vicksburg-Warren 911 began receiving multiple reports of shots fired in the area.  Many callers described a young black male wearing denim shorts over a pair of red shorts, who was seen fleeing toward Ford Street.  Callers were reporting as many as 30 rounds fired in the incident.

Vicksburg police have recovered a firearm believed to have been involved in the shooting and have detained four individuals for further questioning, at least two of which are juveniles.

“We will be charging someone very soon for this senseless homicide here in the city,” Chief Moore said in an exclusive live report.

Authorities are withholding the identity of the victim until the family has been notified.  The Vicksburg Daily News will bring you more information as it becomes available.
