Shootout on Martha and Grammar

Just after 10 p.m., numerous calls to 911 reported gunshots, with one caller reporting a shootout in the area of Martha and Grammar streets in the city.
Several units with the Vicksburg Police Department responded to the scene. When they arrived they observed a black Ford sedan with the back window presumably shot out. A distraught 16-year-old female was near the vehicle. The 16-year-old female was uncooperative with law enforcement.
The shooter reportedly ran north on Martha and then east on Grammar, shooting back towards the black Ford sedan as they ran. Police were seen searching that area for shell casings at the intersection of Martha and the eastmost intersection with Grammar. Additionally, police were noted looking for shell casings near the Ford sedan. It is believed two guns of the same caliber were used in the shootout.
In addition to the back window there appeared to be a second bullet hole in the driver’s door, but that is as yet unconfirmed by law enforcement.

At least 6 VPD units were on the scene investigating the shooting and looking for shell casings.
Several incidents in this area
This older part of Vicksburg has a number of abandoned vehicles. The Vicksburg Daily News reported on the abandoned vehicles in this area in January of this year. Additionally, a Vicksburg man, Darryl Lee Green Williams was arrested on Grammar street in March of 2021 for being a felon in possession of a weapon. In that incident, a person called 911 and reported individuals in the area of Martha and Grammar brandishing weapons. When police arrived they observed Williams with the weapon and arrested him.
The Vicksburg Daily News will stay with this story and update the information as law enforcement allows during an active investigation.
