Shots fired triggering huge police response

Multiple citizens and police officers heard shooting Thursday night, prompting a huge law enforcement response in Vicksburg.
At around 6:35 p.m., Vicksburg Warren 911 began to receive calls of shots fired on Speed Street near its intersection with Leticia Street. Callers were reporting hearing gun fire as far away as Cherry Street. One officer reported hearing gun fire from what sounded like multiple weapons as he was on Washington Street responding to the area.
Officers have located two vehicles that have been damaged by gunfire, but as of 7:10 p.m. have not located any victims. Officers are on standby to respond to the hospital in the event a victim arrives via private vehicle.
One of the damaged vehicles is being transported to the police department so that crime scene investigators can process it for forensic evidence.
A large contingent of officers are currently combing the general area for evidence related to this incident. Vicksburg Daily News will provide additional information as it becomes available to us.
