Six former officers of law enforcement in Rankin County confessed guilt to a range of charges tied to the severe abuse of two African American men, WLBT reports.

Brett McAlpin, aged 52, Jeffrey Middleton, 45, Christian Dedmon, 28, Leonard Elward, 31, Daniel Updyke, 27 and Joshua Hartfield, 31, made their preliminary court appearances before Judge LaKeysha Greer Isaac this past Thursday.

The charges these ex-officers face are rooted in their participation in the violent and sexual assault of two African American men, identified as Michael Corey Jenkins and Eddie Parker. These charges include conspiracy against rights, deprivation of rights under the color of law, conspiracy to obstruct justice, and obstruction of justice.

Additionally, Dedmon and Elward are facing charges for the use, possession, or exhibition of a firearm during a violent act, a charge that alone could result in a life sentence.

As of now, bond has not been established for the accused. The prosecution is recommending that they remain in custody until their sentencing.
