Small Business Saturday comes to Vicksburg
Bargain hunters all know about Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving when big stores offer huge sales on almost everything.
This year, instead of fighting the crowds in the big-box stores Friday, shop locally at Small Business Saturday. When you spend money with locally owned businesses, more of your money stays in the local economy—about 40 percent more, according to the Institute for Local Self Reliance.
Vicksburg celebrates its 10th annual Small Business Saturday on Nov. 30, when more than 150 small businesses will offer specials and entertainment for patrons to enjoy.
“You can come down and shop with your favorite merchant,” said Kim Hopkins, Downtown Vicksburg Main Street program director. “Main Street will have poinsettias for those that spend $25 or more. They can bring in their receipt and we’ll give them a poinsettia.
“It’s just to encourage people to shop local and support their local merchants.”
In addition to sales and fellowship, attendees will be able to visit with Santa and share their holiday gift lists.
For more information contact the Downtown Vicksburg Main Street Program at 601-634-4527.
“We always encourage everyone to shop and dine local and support local merchants downtown,” Hopkins said.
