Smith and Reeves are ready to lead the Flashes in 2023
St. Aloysius football players Carson Smith and Damien Reeves are gearing up to make a significant impact on the field for the Flashes in 2023.
Carson Smith
Smith, the junior quarterback, is poised to spearhead a turnaround for St. Al this year, being the obvious choice to take snaps at QB.
“I’m excited about this year and I know we’re going to do better than we did in the past because we have a lot of young talent so we have no excuse,” Smith said.
Smith, now entering his third year as the starting quarterback, threw for over 800 yards and five touchdowns in 2022. One of his standout performances was against Brookhaven Academy, where he threw two touchdowns and amassed 200 yards.
With past seasons behind him, Smith’s primary focus for 2023 is producing wins for St. Al.
“My interest is winning as many games as possible and making a playoff run,” Smith added.
Reeves
Reeves has been an integral part of the Flashes’ team for years, making his mark both offensively (as FB) and defensively (as LB). As he steps into his senior year, he has big aspirations.
“I’m excited and ready to get back to competing and I know big things will happen for this program this year,” Reeves said.
Last year, Reeves tallied over 80 tackles and rushed for over 200 yards. Now in a leadership role, he’s poised to guide the team in the right direction. His significant contributions included 15 tackles and over 100 rushing yards in a decisive 16-0 win over Park Place.
“I want to help as much as possible on both sides of the ball and I did pretty good on defense last year but I’ve been working on running the ball a lot better as well,” Reeves added.
Beyond guiding his team to the playoffs, Reeves has set personal benchmarks: aiming to rush for over 1,000 yards and achieve over 100 tackles in 2023.
St. Al will commence their season this Friday, hosting Adams County Christian School.
