Son charged with capital murder, arson: Accused of killing mother and burning home in Mississippi
William Walden of Itawamba County, Mississippi, has been charged with capital murder and first degree arson for the death of his mother, Flora Walden. The incident took place in a two-bedroom mobile home on Brown Road, which was discovered burned on July 14.
According to the Mississippi State Fire Marshal’s Office, an investigation was was conducted on the burned two‐bedroom mobile home on Brown Road on July 14. Deputy Rusty McCoy and Deputy Supervisor Jonathan Owens searched the scene and interviewed Walden on two different occasions. Walden was named as the suspect in the arson.
On July 15, William Walden made a confession during questioning. He admitted to beating his mother to death before intentionally setting her home on fire.
Walden’s bond was set at $250,000. However, the Mississippi Department of Corrections placed a hold on him due to a previous felony conviction.
