Sonny Kane Project Tonight At the Beechwood

http://www.myspace.com/thesonnykaneproject. We were able to find an interview with frontman Sonny Kane on the Bandflix website.
BANDFLIX: How would you describe your music? Sonny Kane: We still do allot of covers (mainly danceable rock) from Journey, Boston, Kansas, Queen, Gn’R, BonJovi, AC/DC, etc. But we also do everything from R&B to New Rock. Everything that we do that is not already rock is done in a rock style. I get a lot of my style from there. The originals are a mix. The vocal style is a mix of the 70’s and 80’s, and the music is a mix of 70’s, 80’s, and some new rock stuff like Nickelback, Buckcherry, Theory of a Deadman, etc. Most of the music is very guitar driven and Sam McAslin (Owner and CEO of Retrospect records) said that the first ballad off of the album sounded like it came strait off of a Journey album. I have a deal with him and we are waiting to record. BANDFLIX: How did you choose your band name? Sonny Kane: It originally came when I was an Entertainment Director on Bourbon St. I booked bands for the club 2 nights a week and built my own house band for the other 5 nights. I had to change members often because not everyone could handle 5 nights a week on Bourbon St. I didn’t want to change the name everytime I got a new player or group of players, so I figured there was one name noone could take from me. Sonny Kane BANDFLIX: How long have you been playing together? Sonny Kane: I have had the Sonny Kane band togother for about 5 years. The guys I have with me now have been staples for over a year now. They are two old friends from my hometown. I got quite lucky with some gifted players here. The guitar spot is still in question. I am using a great player out of Vicksburg MS that I have known for a very long time. He wants to do the project, but has other obligations. We’ll see what happens. BANDFLIX: Where do you get inspiration for the music you write? Sonny Kane: PAIN!!! Not on everything, but on ballads or love songs I find that your most creative juices begin to flow when you are in pain. The fun stuff can be inspired by anything. I was playing in a club in Louisiana when I found out (LIVE on stage) what the kids mean when they say monkey. The first single off of the new CD is “Monkey.”
