Just before midnight on Tuesday, Rankin County Sheriff’s Department received a report of a shooting which occurred on Highway 471.

A citizen notified the Rankin County Sheriff’s Department that her car was shot at while she was driving along Highway 471 near Coon Hunters Road.

As deputies responded to the area, a second call came in from another citizen stating their vehicle had also been shot at in the same area around the same time.

Deputies searched the area hoping to locate any parties responsible for the incidents reported.

Early Wednesday morning, deputies noticed bullet holes aimed at the direction of a house in the area. After questioning the homeowner, they located the firearm they believed was used in the incidents.

The investigation led to three male juveniles being detained in connection with the shooting. Two were transported to the Rankin County Juvenile Detention Center and the third was transported to the Rankin County Adult Detention Center as he will be charged as an adult.

The two in the Rankin County Juvenile Detention Center will be seen by Rankin County Youth Court Judge Tom Broome, while the third will be brought before Rankin County Court Judge Kent McDaniel by Rankin County District Attorney Bubba Bramlett for their initial appearance.
