The Starz and the Flashes were named co-champions of the YMCA 10- and 11-year-old girl’s basketball league after the Starz defeated the Flashes last night 20-18.

After the game, both teams had a record of 5-2-1 which forced a tie, and YMCA Program Director Wayne Scott crowned the teams as co-champions.

In a game decided in the final seconds, Kelsey Snowden scored 18 points for the Starz to lead her team to victory. Taryn Lusby dropped 13 points for the Flashes.

Both the Flashes and Starz are well coached by parents of a player on each team. Mimi Mitchell,  Camille Jeffers’ mother, is head coach for the Flashes. Brian Snowden, the father of the Starz lead scorer Kelsey Snowden, is the Starz head coach.

The game last night was the last game of the season for both teams.
