State Board of Nursing issuing temporary licenses to retired and student nurses

Nurses are on the front lines in any health-care crisis, and the current COVID-19 coronavirus could stretch the nation’s need for nurses to the breaking point.

The Mississippi Board of Nursing is responding to that possibility by temporarily waiving some licensing requirements for retired and student nurses.

“During this emergency declaration period, they would be able to get a temporary license to practice nursing if they go to the Board of Nursing website,” Phyllis Jordan, Mississippi Board of Nursing executive director told WAPT.

The Mississippi Board of Nursing is accepting applications for 120-day temporary permits from the following individuals:

  • Currently licensed nurses in other states
  • Nurses previously licensed in Mississippi
  • Graduates of an approved school of nursing prior to NCLEX testing and permanent licensure.

Applicants would be eligible if their license has not been revoked, surrendered or administratively denied in the past.

Nurses will be required to work within the scope of their practice.

For more information and to apply, go to the MSBN website.
